Don't Get Tricked by Bad Fats
Another ingredient we should be looking out for is trans fats, also called partially or fully hydrogenated oils. Does it sound like a good idea to eat artificial fats? Unfortunately, trans fats are found in some yummy-tasting but not-so-healthy foods, such as cookies, cakes, frozen pizza, coffee creamers, frosting, vegetable shortening, and fast food.
The problem with these types of fats is that they have been shown to increase the risk of heart disease by raising bad cholesterol (LDL) and lowering good cholesterol (HDL). They may also increase inflammation in our bodies, which can lead to lots of health problems down the road.
Some food manufacturers try to play games by advertising that there are “zero trans fats per serving” (they know how bad these chemicals are for us) when the product actually contains trans fats. They do this by adjusting the serving size, so it is important to read the Ingredients List carefully and avoid all foods that list partially or fully hydrogenated oils.
