Last week, we talked about choosing low-sugar foods. We should also look for foods low in sodium and free of trans fats.
The recommended daily amount of sodium (salt) we should consume is less than 2,300mg (about one teaspoon). However, most Americans consume an average of 3,400mg of sodium each day. Too much sodium can increase our risk for heart disease and stroke. It can also lead to osteoporosis and kidney disease.
