Animal Products: Moderation is Key

 

There are pros and cons to eating meat.  Let’s start with the positives. Land animal meat is high in protein, iron, B-vitamins (especially B12), zinc, copper, manganese, and other nutrients. 

However, raising livestock for mass consumption may harm the environment and negatively affect our health.

Approximately 30% of the land on Earth is used to grow food for livestock! Raising livestock requires a lot of fresh water along with large amounts of herbicides, pesticides, and antibiotics (if they are not raised organically). 

Regarding our bodies, the overconsumption of animal products, especially red meat, may increase cancer rates and heart disease. Ideally, we should limit our meat intake and choose organic meat whenever possible.
