Exercise: You Don’t Need to Be a Gym Rat
It doesn't matter what we do to get ourselves moving. Sometimes we have to think outside the box (gym) to find an activity we enjoy. First, we need to get off the phone, tablet, and/or computer screen and get out into the real world!
Here are some family movement ideas:
- Create a Ninja Warrior obstacle course with couch cushions and other household items.
- If you have a swing set in your yard, get creative and turn it into an outdoor course.
- Create a scavenger hunt around the house, yard, or at the nearest park. Make it a race if you want to speed things up.
- Play hopscotch. The more numbers, the more movement that occurs.
- Play "groundies" at the park. If you’re unsure what this is, ask a kid (they’ll know). This game is better for older children who can safely maneuver around playground equipment quickly, with their eyes open or closed.
- Create a weekly competition to see who can complete the most activities listed at the beginning of the week. Be sure to have some cool prizes waiting for the winners.
