Exercise: Get that Heart Pumping
One of the most important muscles to train is our heart. The heart is the "king" of muscles, the controller of our destiny. We really can't train our heart without training our respiratory system, and vice versa. We call this "cardiorespiratory fitness." Multiple studies have shown that cardiorespiratory fitness increases lifespan, reduces the risk of diabetes, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, and reduces the risk of some cancers.
We should be working our hearts at a moderate intensity for 30 minutes at a time, five days per week. We know we’re at a moderate intensity when we can talk in short sentences but cannot belt out an entire song.
